Registration Open for Eastlake Male Youth Initiative
Updated: Oct 18, 2020
Atlanta, GA, August 17, 2020 — The Truth Teller Inc. is proud to announce that applications are now available for the 2020-2021 Eastlake Male Youth Initiative (EMYI) youth leadership program. EMYI is a 9-month leadership and mentoring program for African American males aged 10-16.
The program gives African American males access to challenging and impactful instruction from successful role models, business, civic, and community leaders. Our goal is to develop young men to be the next generation of community leaders, high achievers and purveyors of excellence. Each month, participants explore one of eight (8) specific as well as general leadership characteristics. In addition to monthly leadership sessions, participants work in teams to develop small group projects that address and benefit a specific community need. Additional activities includes a 2-day leadership retreat, cultural and historical field trips, one-on-one mentoring, and a graduation ceremony. The program runs from October 2020 to May 2021.
“Now more than ever, Atlanta’s African American youth need a pathway to success and to make a positive difference in their communities,” said Dr. Kenneth G. Torrence, Eastlake Male Youth Initiative Program Director. “Students will emerge from this program more confident and well-rounded with improved leadership skills and a better understanding of themselves and their communities.”
EMYI is open to African American male students in the 5th-11th grade, primarily in DeKalb County, Georgia, or who go to school in DeKalb County. Applicants must submit two completed documents: (1) Student Application; and, (2) Letter of Recommendation. The letter of recommendation must be completed by a teacher, counselor or other unrelated adult. The application and recommendation forms can also be downloaded here and returned to info@the-truth-teller.com. Completed application packets are due no later than September 15, 2020.
